But, when we read The Hindu for UPSC, TNPSC or other state exams, we need not read every nook and corner of the newspaper. We can omit certain unmatched topics in the newspaper. I will explain you in detail about the important and unimportant topics of the 'The Hindu' newspaper.

1) The first page of 'The Hindu' newspaper always deals with the hot topic of the day. The news which got most attention during the day will be published in the first page. So, its better to read this page. If you find very important topics like 'Two Nations Agreements', 'G7 Summit' etc, its better to read the page very thoroughly and carefully. You can take notes of the very important points in short for your future reference because you need not have to search the newspaper when you need details about that news.

2) The second and third page usually provide news about the 'City'. So, this news varies from place to place. So, you need not read it so hard. You can just have a glance on these two pages. If you find news about very important resolutions in your city, you can just make a note of it. Other than that, there will be no important news for UPSC and TNPSC exams in this section.

3) The pages from four to seven will carry news about your state. If you prepare for your state exams like TNPSC, APPSC etc, you have to read these pages carefully. You can find news about big projects, plans etc in this section. You may find some questions about your state if you contest in a state public service commission exams. So, take notes of important projects, resolutions, bills and amendment passed in your state.

4) The pages from eight to thirteen excluding the editorial pages will have news about the nation. That is, news of other states and regions will be printed here. 5) The center pages, that is, pages ten and eleven will be the editorial section of 'The Hindu'. When you ask me which is the most important part of 'The Hindu', I would say editorial closing my eyes. So, spend a lot of time reading the editorial. Here, you will find new words which will also develop your vocabulary skills. So, read the editorial very carefully and try to understand the topics given there rather than merely reading. There is difference between reading and understanding. So, take your time in this section. Use a dictionary to find the meanings of the hard words or new words.

6) The Fourteenth page will have international news. This section is also important. So, make notes of this section. The important points to be noted here are the names of the great leaders, organisations, their meeting places and resolutions etc. So, make notes of the above mentioned tags. You should spend some quality time in reading the international section.

7) The next two pages, that is, Fifteen and Sixteen will have Business and Economical news.
Just have a glance on it. If you find news related to Indian Economy like GDP (Gross Domestic Product), PCI (Per Capita Income), Human Development Index etc, make note of it. Moreover, economic policies of the country should also be studied deeply. So, try to analyze the difference between important and unimportant news in this section.

8) The Following pages except the last page will be about 'Sports'. This is not a very important section because questions asked from this sports in UPSC as well as TNPSC is very low. But its good to know the names of the places of game venues, world cup winning teams etc. If you find details about Commonwealth games and Olympic games, make use of it. Other than that, just have a glance!

9) The last page will deal with variety news. You can find some interesting news here and these news will not be useful for your exam preparations. But you can read it for fun. You can also find 'Sudoku' here. You can just few minutes in Sudoku by solving it.
