My Comments On The Best Book For Indian Economy In TNPSC And UPSC Exams

I have read Ramesh Singh's Indian Economy. I was thinking that was the best book. I was even thinking to suggest Ramesh Singh's Indian Economy to all of you till before reading this book. After reading this Datt & Sundharam Indian Economy book, I have changed my mind completely. I bet you, this is the best book for Indian Economy. Two associate professors in the field of economics have written this book in a neat, precise manner. One of them is an economic professor in Australian University.

Coming to the book, its divided into 5 parts. The first part of the book explains about the structure of Indian Economy. The first part gives a brief vision on the nature of Indian Economy, Indian Economy on the eve of independence, National income of India, Human resources in India, Natural resources in India, Industrial and Social infrastructure in India.
Part II of the book deals with the planning and economic development in India. It covers a variety of topic including objectives of economic planning in India, strategies of economic planning in India, Role of state, Privatisation, Globalization, 10th, 11th and 12th five plans in India, Capital, Poverty and Unemployment.

Part III of the book includes Green Revolution, Food Security In India, Irrigation, Land Reforms, Productive efficiency, Rural credit in India, Agricultural marketing and Agricultural Labour. In general, part III says about the role of agriculture in Indian Economy.

Part IV of the book explains about the role of Industries in Indian Economy. It includes a variety of topics from Industrial patterns, Industrial plans, IT sector, Large and small scale industries, second national commission on labor.

Part V of the book deals with the tertiary sector of Indian economy. It includes a variety of topics from Foreign Trade, Balance of payments, Special economic zones, GATT, WTO to Banking systems, Government subsidies in India.

I prefer this book over Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh. I would dare to say that this is the best book for Indian economy in TNPSC as well as UPSC exams.
