TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern 2015
TNPSC group 2 exam is conducted in 3 stages. Those three stages are as follows.
- Preliminary Examination.
- Main Examination and
- Interview.
Lets see about these three stages in more detail.
Preliminary Examination
The main aim of the TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam is to screen all the applicants and select the eligible candidates to the next round. So, definitely, the TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam is going to be a competitive round. Here, almost, one in every 10 candidates is selected.
When we look into the question pattern of the preliminary exam, it is quite complicated. The question paper is usually divided into 2 sections. The Section-I of the question paper carries 100 questions and Section-II carries 100 questions. The Section-I of the question paper is further sub-divided into two groups. The first group is all about General Studies and the second group deals with Aptitude and Mental Ability Test. General Studies carries 75 questions. Aptitude and Mental Ability Test carries 25 questions. The questions of the general studies is of degree standard whereas the questions of the Aptitude and Mental Ability Test will be in S.S.L.C standard. Section-II of the question paper is usually a language paper, where, the candidates have the option to choose either General Tamil or General English. Section-II will also be in S.S.L.C standard.
As stated earlier, the TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam pattern carries 200 questions. Each questions carries 1.5 marks. The total marks of the TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam is 300. Section-I carries 150 marks and Section-II carries 150 marks. In this preliminary exam, there is no negative marking system and so the candidates can attend each and every question without fear. The TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam duration is 3 hours. The minimum marks required to pass out TNPSC group 2 preliminary exam for all communal categories is 90. But, this might be subject to change if there is variation in the total number of candidates writing the exam. The language of the Section-I of the question paper will be in both Tamil and English. The Section-II of the question paper will be in a language according to the choice of the candidate. That is, the question paper will be in Tamil if the candidate has opted for General Tamil and it will be in English, if the candidate has opted for General English. The marks taken in preliminary round will be not be added in final marks. Its just a screening round to select candidates for main examination.

Main Examination
The TNPSC group 2 main exam is also going to be a competitive exam. This main exam consists of a single 'General Studies' paper. This TNPSC group 2 main examination will be descriptive in type. The questions will be in degree standard. The TNPSC group 2 main exam question paper will be in both English and Tamil. The maximum marks awarded to this paper is 300 marks. The maximum time allotted is 3 hours. The minimum qualifying mark for all communities is 102.

Interview Examination
The interview is the easiest round in TNPSC group 2 examination when compared to all other stages. Interview round accounts for 40 marks. The interview round is to check the candidate's overall interest in general knowledge, especially current affairs. The interview panel will test the intellectuality of the candidate.
So, the overall marks awarded in TNPSC group 2 exam is 340 (Main exam's 300 marks+Interview's 40 marks). The final rank will be awarded based on this mark only.
